"The Death Sentence"

"And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment."  Hebrews 9:27

I was talking with someone recently and the subject came up about the future.  This person told me they wouldn't be here that long because they were under a "death sentence".  They had been diagnosed with a disease and the doctor had told them they only had so long to live.  I replied back to them that we are all under a death sentence-- even those who have not received a medical prognosis.

The truth is that from the moment we are born, we are under a death sentence.  We are heading from the cradle to the grave.  We can't turn back the clock.  It keeps moving forward- not backwards.  That sweet little baby from the moment it is born is now on its way to the grave.  Death may come early in life, it may come late in life, it may come somewhere in between, but it is coming.

The focus then moves from being on the "when" will it happen, because it is inevitable, but on whether you are ready or not when it comes.  Death is not the end.  We don't cease to exist.  We don't just go to the grave and that is it.  We move from this temporary existence into an eternal one.  We only die to this flesh and blood body, but our soul and spirit will live on forever.  Therefore, we need to make preparation for the eternal.  Are you making preparation?  We make it for this life which is temporary, but what about that which is eternal.  Once you reach that time you will never die again.  That is it.  It is final.

I know this is getting lengthy, but it is much too important not to address.  There are two eternal abodes.  One is eternal life.  The other is eternal death.  One is full of joy and everlasting peace.  One is full of torment beyond your wildest imaginations.  One is full of light.  One is full of gross darkness.  One is full of rest.  One is full of pain, suffering and agony.  One is called heaven.  One is called hell.

We are all heading to hell because we were born into sin.  But because of God's great love for us and desire that we spend eternity with Him in heaven, He sent His Only Begotten Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross to save us from our sins and open up a way that we can have eternal life.  We now have a choice.  Continue on the way that leads to hell at the end of this temporary life.  Or accept the way that leads to eternal life by receiving Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord.

You may say that you don't believe in all this.  That it is all a lie.  That it is just a fear tactic.  There are a lot of people who don't believe man has walked on the moon.  There are many who don't believe other things that are reality.  That doesn't mean they aren't true just because you don't believe them.  It doesn't mean that heaven, hell and salvation through Jesus Christ isn't real just because you may not believe it.  It is in your best interest to believe it now.  Because once your eternity comes, you will discover just how real it is, then it will be too late to change your belief.

Have a great day.  We are all under a death sentence.  This life won't last forever.  There is an eternity.  Eternity offers two abodes-- heaven or hell.  Just because you don't believe it doesn't make it so.  You better believe and do something about it now while you can.
