In the Book of Genesis we see the first prophecy concerning the One who would come and deliver people from the curse of sin that had come upon all mankind because of Adam's disobedience. From that moment on the world looked for His coming. When Eve bore Cain, she thought that surely this was the one that was prophesied about. "And Adam knew Eve his wife; and she conceived, and bare Cain, and said, I have gotten a man from the Lord". (Genesis 4:1) But it was not.
Thousands of years passed then one day an angel appeared to a virgin and proclaimed that she would have a Son and He would save His people from their sins. What had been anticipated and looked forward to for all those years had finally come. The fullness of time had come. The long awaited one was going to arrive. It was finally time for the prophecy to began to come to pass.
The birth of Jesus was the beginning of the manifestation of the prophecy, not the end. It wasn't just about a baby being born. It was about that baby growing up and going to the cross to save us through His shed blood on that cross. So, in your celebrating of this joyous season, don't stop at the manger, don't stay there rejoicing in the babe. Keep moving on to the cross. While you are at the cross rejoice that what was prophesied in Genesis has finally come and you are able to receive of its promise.
Have a great day. Don't stop at the manger, that was just the beginning... go on to the cross where your salvation was finished.
