"Fleshly Weapons"

"(For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)" 2 Corinthians 10:4

Someone came over to my house the other day. They said they had been here and there and was going somewhere else after they left. They only stayed for a few minutes and didn't have a lot to say. They had acted very odd, so I called them and asked them if there was something wrong because their behavior was just not right.

They told me that they had been battling depression for the past couple of weeks so they were trying to keep themselves busy so they would not give in to it. Can I tell you, this is not the way to handle or defeat it. This person was trying to handle it through "humanistic wisdom". What they were doing (trying to stay busy to keep from giving in to it) was the flesh's way of trying to solve it's problem.

When you have a problem, when you are going through something, when you are facing a battle, you can handle it one of two ways: either through the flesh or through the Spirit. The Bible tells us not to be conformed to this world. That means don't handle problems or fight battles the same way the world does. Their way is to keep themselves busy, take a pill, go hug a tree, let their anger out, write a letter to themselves, find a hobby, etc.

Instead of conforming to and following the world's "solution" for dealing with these things, we need to handle them through spiritual means. For example, instead of busying themselves, this person should be falling on their face in prayer, and crying out to God, pressing into His presence and remaining there until they have touched the hem of His garment and felt His virtue flow into them.

Handling things through fleshly means will never solve the problem and will never bring victory. Handling them through the spirit- through the weapons that God has made available to us- will.

Have a great day. Flesh cannot solve it's own problems-- it's not by our might or power, but by His Spirit-- by spiritual means.
