"Hell Is Real"

"And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom".  Luke 16:23

I was watching the Family Feud game show last night and one of the questions was:  If you went to hell, name something that you wish you had taken with you.  Some of the answers were:  water, ice, air conditioner, spouse, booze, books, a bathing suit and computer.  It concerned me that people have such a misconception of hell.  It is no wonder, we are not taught about hell any longer.  When was the last time you heard a sermon on hell?  No one wants to preach about it any more.  They want to preach about good things and what people want to hear.  If we don't tell people there is a heaven to gain and a hell to shun, we do them a grave, and eternal, injustice.

Hell is very real.  It does exist.  There is not a party going on there.  There is no Wi-Fi there.  You don't eat or drink in hell.  You don't socialize.  On the contrary, it is a place of torment beyond your wildest imagination.  It is a place where darkness is dense, the flames of fire are not quenched, the worms that gnaw at you do not die, demons make sport of you, fear encapsulates you, the stench of burning and rotting flesh is always present, it is totally void and absent of peace, there is no sleep and you are totally isolated from anyone else.  It is nothing but eternal torment.

I know this is not a pretty picture.  It is because there is nothing about hell that is pretty.  You might not believe in it.  You might have your own definition of it.  You might think it is a concept and not a real literal place.  But unless you believe what the Bible says about it, you are wrong in your belief and when you die you will face the reality of it.

Jesus warned us about hell while He was on earth.  Why would He warn us if it was not real, if it was only a fairy tell or a figment of the imagination?  Why would He be willing to die, and die such a horrible death, to save you from the eternal torment of hell if it were not real?  Why would He die to make a way for you so you would not have to go there?  The answer is because it is real and He loves you so much that He does not want you to go there.  But the choice is up to you.

Have a great day.  Hell is real and it is a place of eternal torment whether you believe that or not.
