"Words Of Life Or Death?"

"Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof."  Proverbs 18:21

We have all heard the saying, "Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words can never harm me".   It is ashamed that it isn't true.  The fact is that words do hurt us.  The Bible says our words can bring death or life.  Our harsh words can wound deeply.  They can bring the death of a dream.  They can destroy a relationship.  They can murder someone's character.  They can condemn the innocent.  They can disgrace a loved one.  They certainly can do great damage and cause bitterness, unforgiveness, hurt, pain, grief and hatred.

On the flip side our words can also bring life.  Our words can uplift.  They can give affirmation.  They can give hope.  They can produce faith.  They can bring joy.  They can bring healing.  They can bring peace and clear up confusion.  They can bring restoration and reconciliation.  Words of truth spoken in love can bring freedom.

Give thought to the words you are speaking today.  What kind of words are you saying?  Are you saying words of life or words of death?  Do your words harm or heal?  Do they make or break?  Do they build up or tear down?  Do they help or hurt?  Do they aid or hinder?  Do they bless or curse?  Do they comfort or discourage?  Your words hold great value.  They produce something when they are spoken, just like seed that is sown produces a plant.  What kind of plant will your words produce?  Will it be a crop of flavorful and enjoyable fruit?  Or will it be a field full of weeds?

Have a great day.  Watch what you say.
