"Keeping Promises"

"God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?" Numbers 23:19

Here in the United States we are getting ready for elections in our government. All the candidates are making promises as to what they are going to do if elected. The promises they are making sound good- lower taxes, health care for everyone, better education. But the reality of it is, that while they sound good and convincing, they can't keep those promises- there are too many factors involved.

I want to remind you this morning not to put your hope in man, in programs, in government-- "in the arm of flesh". They don't and can't keep their promises. They aren't your source. They can't make your life better. They can't meet your need. There is only one true source of hope. There is only one who cannot fail. There is only one who meets our needs. There is only one who makes and KEEPS His promises--- the Lord God! "It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in man. It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in princes." (Psalm 118:8,9) "And being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform." (Romans 4:21) "Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;)" (Hebrews 10:23)

I know the Lord raises up leaders and pulls them down according to His purposes, but His plan and purpose was never for us to become dependent upon them, make them our hope, or put our trust and confidence in them. That is a place in our lives that is reserved only for Him.

Have a great day. Man's promises sound wonderful, but they can't keep them--- only God can.
