"It Will Bring The Family"

"If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted? and if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door. And unto thee shall be his desire, and thou shalt rule over him".  Genesis 4:7

The Bible says that sin is always waiting at the door to come in.  But it doesn't wait alone.  Let me give you a "visual image" of what I mean.  In some of the movies or television shows we have seen, when someone came to visit, the whole family usually came to visit-- and move in.  They brought with them maw, paw, grandma, Aunt Sally, Uncle Joe, cousin Bessie, little cousin Jimmy and the pet dog and chicken.  This is what happens when we allow sin into our lives.  Along with it comes more than just itself.  It brings the "whole family" and they all set up residence.

When temptation comes and you open the door to sin, not only does it come in but it brings the rest of the "family" with it.  It brings along guilt, condemnation, fear, worry, depression, anxiety, bad attitude, bondage, confusion and so on.  (Perhaps this is one of the things Jesus meant when He said that seven more would come with it.)

This is why you must not open the door to it.  It lies in wait always hoping to gain access.  And if you open the door an "inch" it and its "companions" will take a "mile".  They will move in and take over your life.  Instead you must take the way of escape that the Lord makes for you in every temptation.  You must resist the temptation.  You must submit yourself to God. You must use the Sword of the Spirit (God's Word) against it.  You must lean upon the help of the Lord to keep the door closed.  Often, it is not the sin itself that gives you the most trouble, it is the "family" that it brings along with it that torments and oppresses you.  So, don't let it in and you will keep the rest of them out.

Have a great day.  If you open the door to sin, its whole family will move in and take up residence.
