"Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil,
as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour." 1 Peter
5:8
I told you in yesterday's devotional that I awoke to the
sound of thunder. Because of the sound of the thunder I just knew that a storm
was approaching. To my surprise, one didn't. There was no storm, just the
noise of thunder.
The thought came to me that this is how the enemy (the
devil) does us. He makes a lot of "noise". He threatens us with his lies. He
tries to make us afraid at the sound of a bad report. He roars like a lion
hoping to intimidate us and make us believe what he says is the truth.
One definition of fear is: F-alse E-vidence A-ppearing
R-eal. The thunder yesterday appeared to be the evidence of a storm but it was
a false evidence-- I heard it but it never happened. The devil wants you to
listen to his "roaring"- lies, accusations, etc.- and believe that they are
real.
When he comes making a lot of "noise", we must not pay
attention to him. We must not give in to his roaring and believe what he says.
We must listen for another sound, the sound of God's word, the sound of the
Lord's peace and the sound of His voice.
Have a great day. The enemy makes a lot of noise hoping
to make you afraid, but that is all it is just noise.
