"Then I said,
I will not make mention of him, nor speak any more in his name. But his word was
in mine heart as a burning fire shut up in my bones, and I was weary with
forbearing, and I could not stay." Jeremiah 20:9
God's word was so strong in
the prophet that when he tried to keep quiet he could not-- it was like a
burning fire in his bones that could not be quenched. Is the Word of God so
strong and alive in you that you can't help but speak it and live it?
We need the fire of God's word
burning in us again, if it is not. We need it burning so strongly that it comes
out of us in our speech, our attitude, our reactions and our deeds. The devil
tried to quench the word in Jesus (Who is The Living Word- John 1:1,14). He
tried by tempting Him to yield to a "false word"- ("And saith unto him, If
thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall
give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee
up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone." Mathew 4:6) He
tried to quench it in the disciples through threats. ("But that it spread
no further among the people, let us straitly threaten them, that they speak
henceforth to no man in this name. And they called them, and commanded them not
to speak at all nor teach in the name of Jesus." Acts
4:17,18)
We must never cease to
proclaim God's word. It is powerful. It sets captives free and opens prison
doors to those who are bond. It is eternal. It is the Truth. We must read it,
study it, meditate upon it and hide it in our hearts. We need to pray that it
will burn so brightly and strongly in us that it cannot be quenched by threats,
by lies, by fear, by intimidation, by reproach, by persecution, by opposition or
any other thing the enemy throws at us.
It has been reported
repeatedly of Christians in the past that when they faced persecutions and even
martyrdom that with their last breath they were proclaiming the gospel and
speaking the Word of God. Even death could not quench the fire of God's Word
that was in them. May the same be said of us today.
Have a great day. Is God's
Word shut up in your heart like a fire that nothing can
quench?
